PAUL GAUGUIN
Activities and Services
The 19,200-ton m/s Paul Gauguin has offered year-round seven-night cruises in the pristine paradise of Tahiti and French Polynesia since January 1998 (and is the most elegant vessel to be based there year-round). Sailing every Saturday from Papeete (Tahiti), the ship visits Raiatea, Tahaa (for a call at RSSC's private islet of Motu Mahana), Bora Bora and Moorea. All staterooms feature ocean views (50 percent with private balconies). The ship has a casually elegant dress code suitable to the destination, as well as cuisine inspired by a two-star Michelin French chef, complimentary watersports and her own retractable marina.

ACTIVITIES and SERVICES

The delightfully informal, unhurried and unregimented way of life of Polynesia will be emulated on board. A visit to the ship’s Fare Tahiti Gallery, featuring Polynesian art and artifacts, will introduce you to the islands’ colorful heritage.

Each cruise features a special lecturer to enhance your experience and provide fascinating insights and a greater understanding of the Polynesian people. Exciting folkloric shows featuring the arts of the islands are given on board. One day you might be serenaded by the soaring a cappella harmonies of Polynesian himene songs. Another might feature an electrifying performance of ote'a - a complex line dance accompanied by drums telling the ancestral legends of the Polynesian people. Or, take a lesson in the technique of paddling an outrigger canoe (it’s easy, once you know the secret!)

Environment

The Tahitians, renowned for their health, physical beauty and spiritual serenity, are more than familiar with the medicinal and cosmetic benefits of the plants, flowers and trees of their islands. Aboard the Paul Gauguin, it is our desire to offer you an environment that is equally conducive to health, beauty and happiness. The pool invites you to an early morning dip while the Fitness Center features a full range of exercise equipment. And for the ultimate refreshment of body and soul, we have chosen Carita, the premier name in beauty in Paris, to create and operate our onboard spa.

Watersports

Watersports are a highlight of the Polynesian experience. The ship’s small size allows it to navigate in shallow lagoons and narrow channels where larger ships may not sail. The Paul Gauguin is specially designed with a retractable watersports platform, taking guests down to sea level where they may conveniently hop aboard a Windsurfer, launch a kayak, try a little water-skiing, or don dive or snorkeling gear for underwater adventures.

Entertainment

Evenings center around relaxation and camaraderie. Entertainment might include listening to a talented soloist in Le Grand Salon, dancing on deck in the indoor-outdoor La Palette Lounge, perhaps a few hands of blackjack or bets on the roulette wheel in the Casino, or savoring French Cognac, vintage wines, and fine cigars in the intimate Connoisseur Club.

Voyage of Rediscovery

In keeping with the ultra-deluxe standards of Regent Seven Seas Cruises, the Paul Gauguin is the most deluxe ship ever to sail year-round in Tahiti.

This remarkable vessel is an extension of the informal, relaxing environment of Polynesia, interpreted with American attention to luxury and comfort and French flair for casual sophistication.

Designed to be in harmony with the natural beauty of the islands and their culture, the atmosphere aboard radiates warmth, informality and openness. Here, the constraints of formal wear, tuxedos and ties are forgotten and the only dress code is relaxation. Service is of the highest caliber; friendly, flawless and without fanfare, befitting the Regent Seven Seas fleet.

The ultra-deluxe cuisine is also of stellar quality, inspired by France's long tradition of highly evolved gastronomie. Dining is open seating, at leisure, in two elegant restaurants. An open-air grill offers casual fare. The entire shipboard experience is one of easy-going informality in an atmosphere of luxury created to satisfy body and soul.

For today's adventures in paradise, the Paul Gauguin is an idyllic environment for pure pleasure.

There is an unmistakable joie di vivre aboard the Paul Gauguin, attributable in part to the extraordinarily vibrant landscapes through which they sail. But it also has to do with your personal space. To be just one of 320 guests aboard this elegant ship is to enjoy the ultimate luxury - privacy. There are no crowds. No endless announcements. No long lines. The Paul Gauguin is ultra-deluxe in every respect. And the sense of spaciousness is no illusion - the ship has one of the highest space per guest ratios in cruising!

If genius is in the details, then staterooms aboard the Paul gauguin are of particularly inspired variety. All staterooms and suites have sweeping ocean views. Half offer private balconies or verandahs. Furniture and cabinetry feature rich pearwood, cherry and mahogany, flawlessly shaped and joined by skilled French cabinetmakers. A loveseat beckons you to sit for a while and gaze through your window, watch a recent release on your VCR or partake of the beverages stored in a refrigerator/bar, cunningly hidden in a beautifully crafted marquetry cabinet.

Baths sparkle in gleaming chrome and white marble. A cotton bathrobe, hand milled soaps and toiletries await your pleasure. Fabrics and hangings are of the finest natural fibers, softly woven and sumptuous to the touch. In a mirrored niche, a stone Tiki stands over your private abode. And at night, a fragrant Tiare flower is placed on your pillow, its sweet scent wafting you to pleasant dreams. Its an environment calculated to soothe and satisfy body and soul.

A Tour de Force of Inspired Culinary Artistry

The French sensibility to the finer enjoyments in life is apparent everywhere on the Paul Gauguin. And nowhere more so than in our galley. Just as you would expect on a ship named for one of France's greatest artists, you'll find that the pleasures of our table reflect the highest level of culinary artistry. In addition to rendering inspired interpretations of classic French accented cuisine, our chefs excel in adopting oriental and ethnic recipes and devising innovative new dishes - the best of East and West. Our menus also feature superb international cuisine, lighter fare including selections for those with special diets, and inventive adaptations of traditional Polynesian dishes, all using the freshest tropical fruits, vegetables, seafood and other ingredients.

Two fine restaurants aboard the Paul Gauguin give guests a choice of dining venues. L'Etoile and La Veranda both feature open-seating dining in tasteful, understated surroundings. La Veranda also serves selections from the Apicius Restaurant in Paris, created by renowned 2-star Michelin Chef Jean-Pierre Vigato. An open-air bistro, called Le Grill, offers casual, outdoor dining. Wines from the caves of France, California and other wine-growing domains are poured with our compliments at every lunch and dinner. And if you prefer to dine in your stateroom, our room service offers selections from L'Etoile during dinner, while an extensive room service menu is available 24 hours a day.

Connoisseur Club

When cognac and cigars are in order, the Connoisseur Club provides a warmly relaxing environment, much like a favorite private club in London, Paris or New York. Chairs, bar, humidors and wine cabinets are richly decorated in warm woods and leathers in the colors of dried tobacco leaves. And unlike your club in town, this one has a splendid sea view!

Le Casino

On any evening, Le Casino is the center of excitement. The rich colors and textures of polished woods and hand-wrought Moroccan brass are reflected in shuttered mirrors lining the room. Around the inviting Zebra wood bar, onlookers gather to imbibe and watch the players. In hushed voices, the bets are called. The spin of the wheel or the luck of the cards decides who wins and who loses. And towers of chips climb beside the winners. C'est la vie - it's only a game!

Le Grand Salon

Guests gather in the warmly inviting Grand Salon to enjoy a variety of entertainments. They may watch an electrifying performance of Polynesian dancing, with graceful dancers and reverberating drums telling of ancestral legends. Take in a fascinating lecture on Polynesian arts and culture. Or hear a soulful chanteuse sing the Parisian blues. And when the music and the spirit move you, a dance floor invites you to take a spin.

Card Room

For a hand of rummy or a rubber of bridge, there's no place like the Card Room, tucked away near L'Etoile Restaurant. A great selection of coffee table books, games, puzzles and playing cards is available in this attractive room.

La Palette

In La Palette, the delightfully informal and unregimented way of life of Polynesia is emulated on board. A palette of Polynesian blues and yellows greets your eye in the indoor/outdoor lounge, reflecting the colors of the sea and sun. Intricate wood carvings in native motifs remind you of the islands' open-sided thatched houses that invite in the gentle breezes on lazy, siesta-filled afternoons. A drink when the sun is over the yardarm is de rigueur here. As is dancing under a glittering constellation of stars of the southern sky.

Fare Tahiti

Fare Tahiti means "Tahitian House". Here they've created a small gallery of unique art and artifacts which they hope will convey some of the fascinating history and culture of the islands that are home to the Polynesian people. The collection includes paintings, prints, statues and documents relating to Tahiti's pre-European past, as well as materials from the 19th century, with several woodcut prints and a small original bronze by Gauguin.

La Boutique

La Boutique contains unusually fine gifts as well as the usual necessities and sundries. You'll find lustrous south sea black pearls and unique Polynesian crafts. Plus gleaming silver, crystal glassware and resort clothing bearing chic French designer labels such as Hermès and Cartier.

Le Grill

A lunch by the pool is a lovely way to take your noon repast, without having to break up your day. Grilled favorites and zesty salads and fresh tropical fruits are featured. You can also greet the sun with our buffet breakfast, or enjoy a casual dinner under the stars.

To Live in Health and Beauty — The Carita Spa and Fitness Center

Enter a private world of serenity and beauty, where the sound of fountains, the glow of cool marble and the touch of the masseuse soothe body and soul.

Aboard the Paul Gauguin, it is our desire to offer you an environment that is equally conducive to health, beauty and happiness.

The pool invites you to an early morning dip while the Fitness Center features a full range of technical equipment to exercise and tone the physique. And for the ultimate refreshment of body and soul, the Carita Spa, created and operated by the premier name in beauty in Paris.
